Hello.  My name is Mr. Johnson, and I will be your English teacher this year.  I have been teaching for 19 years: 15 years at Luther Burbank High School, 2 years of teaching English 1A and 1 at Sacramento State and Cosumnes River College, and 2 years in Stockton at Bear Creek High School and Lincoln High School.  I graduated from University of the Pacific in 2000 with a degree in English and Sacramento State in 2005 with a Masters Degree in English.   I love all sports and the challenge that comes with competing in different activities.  I was a competitive year round swimmer, a ranked junior tennis player in Northern California, and played water polo and baseball in High School.  I continued to play water polo at University of the Pacific and was the starting goalie on the 1999 team, where we ended ranked 5th in the nation.    I was the tennis coach at Luther Burbank for 8 years, helping our players develop skills to compete in the Metro League.  I play basketball at the Capital Athletic Club and still get to be competitive into my ripe old age of 44.  I often say that I teach English like a PE teacher, because I pick a skill that I want my students to practice when reading, writing, listening, or speaking and have them practice that skill until they feel confident with it.  I am an avid reader of all kinds of writing and write with a group of teachers about teaching and life in general.  I look forward to a great year and learning a ton with you.

I'm the goalie on the left side of the pool.  This game was the first round of the MPSF tournament against 1# ranked USC.  Pacific is the white caps and we beat USC 10-9.  We ended the year ranked #5 in the nation.  At the bottom of the page is a picture of the 2013 Luther Burbank Girl's Tennis Team.
